A patient’s own fat can be liposuctioned from other areas on the body and then re-injected into the breast to achieve the desired size.
The major advantage of this technique is that it is 100% natural and allows shaping of other fat laden areas of the body. However patients that want a breast augmentation may not have enough body fat to redistribute to the breast.
Disadvantages of the technique is that some of the fat is resorbed and breast volume is lost initially. This necessitates an additional one or two sessions, where further fat is injected into the breast.
COMPLICATIONS OF FAT TRANSFER
- Fat necrosis: some of the injected fat may die and result in a red painful area that may breakdown
- Cyst formation
- Too little or too much injected fat may give an unwanted cosmetic look or effect
