Enjoy a new lightness of movement and relief from the pain and limitations of large, heavy breasts. Breast reduction, also known as mammoplasty, reduces the size of breasts, while reducing the shape. If the size and weight of your breasts have been causing discomfort, back, shoulder or neck pain, or limiting your choice of clothing or exercise programmes, breast reduction surgery can bring welcome relief and flexibility.

The procedure

I will consult with you to determine how much breast tissue to remove, and ensure you are informed about the nature of the scarring that may occur.

The operation takes between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the size of the breasts, and you may be required to stay in hospital overnight.

Recovery occurs between 7 to 14 days, and strenuous physical activity is discouraged for 3 to 6 weeks after surgery.

Possible side effects and complications

Possible risks include: unfavourable scarring, delayed wound healing, loss of the nipple and breast tissue, loss of nipple sensation and inability to breastfeed. It is also possible that the final shape of the breast will not be exactly what you have hoped for.
